Charles' Story 1

I was very surprised to find out that Charles actually enjoys writing! He asks constantly if he can write in his book when it's not writing time.  What am I going to say?  No?! Absolutely not.  If he is willing to write, I'm all for it.  HOWEVER, he loves to write with dialog and I'm not really looking forward to typing that out, but I will of course. I'm going to type it as he wrote it.  Punctuation and all.

The night he got his puppy, Scout.

3-8-16

"Come on Jamie get in the car" said Dad.  While Dad and I were in the car I asked "Where are we going Dad?" "I can't tell you it's a suprise" said Dad.  The next few minutes were silent.  I looked out the window. When they got there I totally thought that we were going on a camping trip.  We started walking toward the huge cabin.  

Once we got in a tall strong man greeted Dad "You ready for this Craig?" Craig is my Dad's name.  But what was this?  "OK son we are going on a..." Bang!!  The door swung open and a man came in.  he said his name was Dan the other man's name is Nick.  Dad, Nick and Dan went to the car and pulled out big gun cases.  ARE WE GOING HUNTING!? "Yep we are" said Dan. Come on lets go get ready. So I went to the bathroom to get ready.  

Later I came outside with a camoflauge coat and pants.  A Blaze orange hat and a black gun case over my shoulder.  He was thirteen he was old enough to go hunting.  In a few minutes Nick Dad and Dan came out. "Are you ready to go" said Dad. "yep" I said Then lets go.  As they were walking to the hunting stand Jamie heard raccoons , deer, squirrills, and birds.  When they got to the hunting stand they set all their stuff down and rested for a little big.  Eventually Jamie got bored and asked "Can we go now?' "Lets go." said Dad  Once they got all set up Jamie looked out the stand and watched for a long time. He started to fall asleep because he was up early that day.  But just then his Dad wispered "Hey theres one." "Jamie, you can do this one." So Jamie Aimed but suddenly the deer heard Jamie cock the gun so the deer started to run. So Jamie just shot whithout even knowing where it would go or what it would hit.  BANG!! Jamie flew back but thankfully Dad was there to catch him.  He wasn't sure if he hit the deer or not but he couldn't see it.  So they went to look for it.  After looking a while Nick called out "Hey, I found him!" It was a huge ten point buck. Jamie was so exited he forgot to help load it into the truck.  

While they were driving Jamie couldn't stop talking about it.  They finally got home it felt like two hours but it was only five minutes.  When they got to the cabin Jamie wanted to get a picture for his mom.  So after they got the picture Jamie couldn't decide if he wanted to have a knife handle out of deer antler, lots of jerky, and a blanket out of deer fur or to have deer head hanging on the wall, still some jerky but not as much and to still have a blanket made out of deer fur.  After a long time of thinking he decided to have lots of jerky, a blanket and a knife handle out of antler.  He wanted to hunt a rabbit for dinner while he was waiting for Nick to get his knife handle done and his blanket and his jerky.  Nick was a skilled guy he did all the gutting and the making of the jerky.  

That night they had jerky for dinner and and rabbit stew.  Jamie lay awake that night thinking about what he would do tomorrow morning.  He could learn how to set traps.  Or learn how to clean a gun.  Over breakfast he tried to decide. They had eggs and bacon.  He finally decided on learn how to set traps.  So after breakfast he went with Dan to learn how to set traps.  Dan started to set traps Jamie watched intently.  Suddenly out of nowhere came a bear.  Dan said "Hurry get up the tree!" Jamie started to get up the tree.  When Jamie got up Dan was already half way up the tree. While Jamie was catching his breath the branch broke and Jamie fell.  When he hit the gbround he was to scared to move or to notice the sharp pain in his arm thankfully the bear didn't notice him.  BANG!!  Dad came running down the hill shooting in the air.  The bear ran and Dan was already down the tree helping Jamie up.  "Ow!  I think my arm is broken." said Jamie.  Lets go to the doctor.  Dan said "Nick will stay here and I will go with you and Jamie.

Holy Moly!  Granted he did not write that in the 15 minutes a day we do this class.  This was writing that he added to all day. It's interesting that each of the kids' writings show me what needs to be worked on.  A few spelling issues, punctuation, and we need to talk about first and second person.  I'm still impressed for a 10-year-old!
